Elsabella is a traditional sailing dhow based in Lamu, a small island on Kenya's north coast more than 100km beyond Mombasa. Guests sail through the archipelago, anchoring off deserted beaches and island hideaways, and sleep on deck beneath the stars.

Why it's on Weaver
Very few places let you fall asleep on open water with the whole archipelago to yourself. Elsabella is simple, properly sailed and run by a crew who know these channels, and the days on board slow right down.
Directions
Lamu
Of Swahili origin, Lamu grew out of the trading routes between Arabia and India, and for centuries received dhows carrying ivory, palm oil and spices. It has kept its air of mystique and of times long past. There are no roads, the pace of life is slow, and the only ways to travel are by dhow, donkey or on foot.
On board
Elsabella has space to spread out, swim and do very little. Snorkelling, paddleboarding and fishing are all on offer, and the birdwatching from the deck is exceptional. When conditions allow she raises her sails in the time honoured way, and when they do not there is an inboard engine. She suits friends after an adventure, families wanting proper time together, and couples looking for somewhere genuinely secluded.
Accommodation
Up to six guests sail on Elsabella. When staying overnight, guests sleep on deck under the stars. There is a fresh water shower and a loo at the stern.

Good to know, on board
- Simple meals and drinking water are provided. Bring your own drinks and snacks.
- A fresh water shower and a loo are at the back of the boat.
- Some snorkelling equipment is on board, along with hand lines for fishing.
- Bring your own fishing tackle and kites if you want them.
- Fish is caught where possible, and otherwise bought in port or from passing fishing boats.
