Bushtops Nest is a self catering cabin for two near Nanyuki, raised on stilts in the treetops under a hand-thatched makuti roof. Canvas roll-ups open it to the bush on one side and the Lolldaiga Hills on the other. It settles the question everyone asks: tent or room? You get the sounds of one and the comfort of the other.

Life in the treetops
Mornings are slow on the deck with coffee. Inside there is a queen bed with good linen, a fully equipped kitchen and a living area with panorama windows. The hot shower is outdoors and completely private. Evenings belong to the fire pit, and to a very generous amount of sky.
The garden
The rest of Kilima Gardens is a short walk away, shared with the other cabins: a saltwater pool open all year, a wood-fired sauna with a glass roof and a cold plunge pool beside it, and a hammock treehouse for sundowners, looking out to the Aberdares. Most people find they stay exactly where they are.

Good to know
- The cabin is on stilts and reached by steps, so it suits guests who are steady on their feet.
- The shower is outdoors and the mornings at this altitude are properly cool. Bring a layer.
- A travel cot and extra mattresses are available on request, but this is a cabin built for two.
- Self-catered. Nanyuki is twenty minutes away for groceries, and the team can source fruit, vegetables, milk and eggs with notice.
- The pool, sauna and treehouse are shared with other guests at Kilima Gardens.
- About three hours from Nairobi by road.
